Mercedes Cabanach

Mercedes Cabanach was born in Sabadell, Barcelona, Spain.
She started her musical studies at five years of age at the Conservatório Superior de Música do Liceu de Barcelona.
Following that she obtained a scholarship to attend the Mozarteum, in Salzburg, Austria, where she studied for one year.

Following that she studied musical and rhythmic Dalcroze pedagogy at the Instituto Joan Llongueras (a musical method applied to movement created by Jaques Dalcroze and Joan Llongueras), later she was invited by the institute itself to teach this method.

She studied classical dance at Liceu de Barcelona and through music she has fulfilled her lifetime dream of being a pianist specialized in classical dance.
She was invited as a piano accompanist to work in Paris at the Centre de Dance du Marais, Paris Conservatory, and The Paris Opera, where she worked with great masters and dancers, including Rudolf Nureyev.

Later she was invited to work at the Berlin Opera as a piano accompanist to work with such people as Vladimir Gelvan (main dancer at the Berlin Opera).
She has also been a piano accompanist at Scala de Milano, an invitation made by the great dancer and pedagogue Rosella Hightower.
In Portugal she has played with the most important dance companies in the country, such as:
Ballet Gulbenkian
Companhia Nacional de Bailado (CNB)
Companhia de Dança de Lisboa
Companhia Contemporânea de Bailado e Dança
She has been invited to perform at many workshops throughout Europe.
For the past few years she has been a resident piano accompanist and a teacher of new pianists in this field at the Conservatório Nacional de Lisboa (Portugal).
